Sneaked: New PlayStation Campaign

Now why would it need that

Sneaked: New PlayStation Campaign
Sony has apparently got some new PlayStation branding ready and waiting - or so it would appear from an online ad sitting waiting in an approval queue.

While the advert itself would usually be nothing write home about (or even a news story) the fact that it's come to the fore in the middle of one of the biggest rumour fests since the Virgin Mary's girlfriends started to gossip does suggest that Sony is going to pull out that Big Bang announcement soon.

The ad features lots of the kind of morphing animation that we all knew and loved cira 1991 on the Amiga. It also comes with a tag line that suggests that whatever the new PlayStation doesn't have (USB slots, memory card slot?) it will have Blu-ray. That tag line is "Blu-Ray: Not Just High Definition. Higher Definition" - take that HD-DVD supporters, that's got to hurt.

Basically then, this ad - which might or might not get approval - is all about the graphics and is still pushing Blu-ray (or Blu-Ray as the text has it). There is no mention of 40Gb and no mention of price.

Also included in the ad are Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Heavenly Sword tags with included video of both games.

See the advert-in-waiting right over here. And tell them we sent you...

Sony are really getting desperate, High Definition is High Definition - they hype on about 1080p yet 90% of their games are only 720p also HD-DVD's visually do look better than many Blu-Ray movies.

See I was right Sony are pushing the PS3 more of a movie box rather than a games console its because they know the hardware is no good for gaming they are going to give up sooner or later.

Seconded.

The only thing I find strange about that advert is that it has a video of Blu-Ray... is there much of a point showcasing the high qualities of Blu-Ray when it's all in a compressed flash video banner? Doesn't really argue your case does it.

That would be censorship based on the fact that SuperSaiyan4 appears to be (belay that, "SuperSaiyan4 is") annoying the hell out of people by repeating the same fanboy theme again... and again and again and again.

Being an annoying fanboy on a forum that resides on a video games information (and opinion) site is not qualification enough for banning... no matter how much that fanboy goes on and on and on and on...

The 'Ignore' button in this case is the appearance of the word 'SuperSaiyan4' - just don't read any further.

SuperSaiyan4 - how about you come up with more useful input? We all kind of get the idea that you like the Xbox... we can read your signature.

Cheers

Tim

....and on and on and on, again and again and again and again....

Hang on a bit why dont you ring Sony and tell them to stop talking crap I mean there ads are all stupid and they keep saying stupid things like 'We need blu-ray for TRUE next gen games' 'Blu-ray has HIGHER definition'

I think in this case Sony is the most ignorant asses ever.

I am however talking down to earth and the truth of what its all about I own a PS3 and I know its not that great.

I have got plenty of valid information and input, want links to other sites to back it up?

I think the games speak for themselves and you only have to look at what the 360 has to see the difference.

What about changing his login to "iamacock" or "ignoremeiloveattention"?

I also would love an "ignore" button. It's not censorship, it will still have its say... just save those who know that the t**t posts pointless nonsense the bother of reading them by accident. I'm so bored of reading its same, tired old uneducated ill-informed fanbaby nonsense. I'm just concerned I'll snap and say something that will get me banned. I don't wanna be banned from SPOnG as it is my favourite place on the interweb. I just love the writing style... love it. But on the flipside, the comments made by nine-year-old brain-dead illiterates (apparently) make me bite my tongue so bad that I'm bleeding blood.

All I'll say for now is this: Blu-ray has higher capacity than HD-DVD. Fact. Therefore, logic dictates that it is capable of storing more data, and therefore a higher quality of definition. It's logic. And let us also remember that PS3 has Bluray built-on from the off, whereas Microsoft charge extra for their add-on, which does not even allow for HD-DVD games. These are all facts.

And please please please oh mods, consider an ignore button. SuperSaiyan has never posted a single noteworthy item and it would be wonderful to never have to be subjected to such garbage again. I wouldn't say ban the fool, just give us the option to put him in a box of his own where he can quietly rant until his face goes a lovely shade of blue, while the rest of us can converse like grown-ups.

So you are to tell me that having MORE space means better everything? You call that a valid argument and want me to be ignored? Oh please stop talking out of your backside.

HD-DVD is already at 51gb triple layer and yes yes yes I know blu-ray has annouced even higher capacity at 100gb I think it was.

Since blu-ray and hd-dvd are both using the same format for encoding the visual difference is now the same however its up to the studios who support these formats to offer up something over the other in the ways of extras etc like HD-DVD are doing with online extras and then blu-ray with JAVA+

As far as gaming goes blu-ray has proved that it is NOT required for gaming - just look at the games, they dont look that mind blowing main basis being the GPU is advanced as the 360 GPU.

With Microsoft its all about choice, there are plenty of gamers out there that cannot afford a HDTV or have no interest in purchasing one so your argument on Microsoft charging for the add-on is flawed.

Same as the wireless add-on and all the accessories that cost is flawed you have a choice!

I rather go get a premium 360 which play.com are selling for £200 and actually get HD cables and a headset with it rather than pay £400 for a PS3 with things I might not need and also one must consider its serious lack of decent games which cannot even compare to what is on offer on the 360.

I can easily hold a VALID argument its people like YOU that are delusional PS3fanbabies that have NO clue on what gaming really means.

Those that buy a PS3 only talk about the CELL and blu-ray whereas 360 gamers talk about what is most important...THE GAMES.

Actually, you're the one that's acting a bit out of turn here. What you fail to realise is that for the most part, we don't care about Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. I certainly don't. I'd rather stick with DVDs for all I care. You can shove HD videos up your arse, particularly when the 360 has upscaling which is more than enough for me.

You appear to be the only one bothered about the BR/HD-DVD issue, as you keep bringing it up. Yes, Sony keep banging on about it but at the moment what other selling point do they have? It's like Microsoft currently going "Broken consoles you say? Er, OH LOOK HALO LOLZ!"

It's also nice to stop the delusion that we are PS3 'fanbabies' (how mature), when in fact we are pretty much fans of video games in general. You seem to like to pick one particular console regardless of the games coming out on it.

Take Metal Gear Solid 4, an utterly brilliant game - you will most likely not champion that at all because it (currently) isn't coming out on the XBOX 360. I think it's sad that by 'games' you have to define it by console. Take your own advice and talk about the games.

Those that buy a PS3 only talk about the CELL and blu-ray whereas 360 gamers talk about what is most important...THE GAMES.

That is true. You say you own a PS3 and all you've talked about is Sony, Blu-Ray and CELL. ;)

Yeah, ok.

As regards the GPU's we can't really know. We can either assume that 360 has a modified x1800 and the PS3 is running a straight out 7800gtx... but its more likely that the 360 runs a heavily modified x1800 and the PS3 has something more along the lines of a 7950gt. If either of them are the case, there isnt a whole a lot inbetween them. And give that ATI's idea of a more advanced graphics card then a 8800gts is the 2900xtx (runs hotter, uses more power, performs worse) im not convinced.

Blu-ray discs hold more per layer. Hd-dvd's can start coming out with triple layers, so can blu-ray... but at the end of the day a Blu-ray disc holds more. Both of them are pretty boring movie formats worth ignoring for another 2 or 3 years imo. As storage formats for games, Hd-dvd is probably good enough for the time being, you can use your three layers because that stutter as the lens switches layers isnt so important.

But then, the xbox 360 uses dvd's... and there are no triple layer dvd's. If they went with slightly modified dvd's that were triple layer somewhere around 13.5gb it would be fine, but they didnt. I really think that a year from now its going to be a constraint, and we are going to see two dvd disc games... and thats just annoying.

As regards choice on the 360 extras wise.... a rechargable battery and charge cable for my pad really isnt an option... but at least they dont eye gouge you. Need i mention the ridiculous cost of a bigger/second hard drive (proprietary thank you very much), the xbox live subscription (when there arent dedicated multiplayer servers), the wireless adapter. You get a PS3, sure it costs a hell of a lot but you can get a bigger hard drive if you want for cheap, use bluetooth headsets, keyboards, wireless controllers... its an open standard. Sure you have choice with the 360 where you have none with the PS3, but where the choice is nothing or a Microsoft officially overpriced product... thats much of a choice.

As regards games, both consoles are really dissapointing, PS3 more so yes. 360 has Halo 3 which is pretty good mulltiplayer, Gears of War and Forza 2... but really nothing incredible, nothing like previous generations had. PS3 has very little worth mention yet... but at this point in the life span of the PS1 it wasnt even out in Europe yet so im willing to give it a little time. If i had a ps3 now i would get Warhawk and Skate, ive played warhawk and its about as good as Halo 3 imo and Skate i hear is great thanks to the ps3 controls (would love to see a wii version)

And... im no going to mention the cell. For the record, i own a 360 and not a PS3, which might bias me towards the 360 a bit.

Sorry for feeding the troll, sorry for having a long post... well not really.
