Doom conspicuous by its absence at E3

Why is id keeping hush?

Doom conspicuous by its absence at E3
id Software has stated that it will not be showing Doom III at this year’s E3, which takes place in Los Angeles in May.

The company is said to be “attempting to focus the attention of the press and fans on other titles such as Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Commander Keen for Game Boy Color.”

Company CEO Todd Hollenshead seemed a little annoyed at the speculation surrounding Jon Carmack’s latest creation. In a somewhat ratty interview with GameSpy he said, “I doubt if we will show anything from Doom at E3 this year.” Note he didn’t say Doom III.

The reason Doom III’s no-show has raised a few eyebrows is the fact that id has long stated that the project is well underway, and demonstrated it running at the launch of nVidia’s latest GeeForce graphics card. Why id doesn’t want to show us the update to its most famous creation is a mystery.
