Xbox 360's To Get HDMI As Standard?
A Microsoft representative apparently blurted the following during E3 in early July that "HDMI will probably be standard moving forward."

The source for this news (the emminently trustworthy ars technica) maintains that Microsoft hopes to sell its current stock of machines and then ‘soft launch’ a new version of both their Core and Premium Xbox 360s towards the end of August or in early September.

Rumours have been circulating about what these new machines may contain, but they are expected to have HDMI and smaller 65nm processor chips that run cooler as well as quieter DVD drives.

The new hardware will apparently come with information on the box to let HDMI hungry punters know that they're getting one of the newer models.

The 65nm processor chips have a ring of project 'Falcon' from last month, although that particular rumour made no mention of HDMI.

No comment was available from Microsoft at the time of press.

Logically MS should have figured HDMI is the HD video / audio spec over 2 years ago like every other manufacturer. Sure DVI has a foot hold but it only handles video. Too bad their confusion comes at the expense of early adopters of their 360 console and mud on their face as only 9 months ago they stated HDMI was no better than component. Besides, MS seems to think the more versions of their console the better. I find the whole matter utterly confusing and the average consumer would be better off picking up the complete HD gaming experience on the PS3.

Actually I think the average consumer would be far better off with a Wii...especiallly holding off on buying either a 360 or a PS3 for the moment, unless they're sure they don't need a HDMI port, in which case, by all means take advantage of the imminent price breaks on the 'old stock' 360's. The PS3 looks like its headed for a controller revision and lower prices further along...about the same time they get more games worth playing...

For the serious gamer, who doesn't already own a 360 or a PS3 and has the filthy lucre, the Elite looks pretty safe...you get HDMI, and a presumedly redesigned console with a killer extended warranty while missing out on the coming improvements with the new CPU. Oh yeah, you also get more good games than I care to list and the bestest (and only mature) online service extant. Hell, buy a 360 now, then later, when you actually have an HDMI TV, overheat the bastard (shouldn't be too difficult) and get a new model with HDMI under the 3-year warranty...

As to different versions...aren't there several versions of the PS3? 20GB/60GB/80GB with/without Emotion Engine...seems like thats a lot less simple than the 3SKUs so far from MS...

its only hdmi Yahoo whatever as most HDTV only have 1 or two hdmi ports and people how have HDTV have sky hd and a new DVD player which they use hdmi i think there's no point as you can get the same pic if you use the cables that came with the console ore get vga cable
and the 120 gig hdd if you already got a 360 just go and buy the drive
and last of all if you after black 360 replace you case
