A Microsoft representative apparently blurted the following during E3 in early July that "HDMI will probably be standard moving forward."
The source for this news (the emminently trustworthy ars technica) maintains that Microsoft hopes to sell its current stock of machines and then ‘soft launch’ a new version of both their Core and Premium Xbox 360s towards the end of August or in early September.
Rumours have been circulating about what these new machines may contain, but they are expected to have HDMI and smaller 65nm processor chips that run cooler as well as quieter DVD drives.
The new hardware will apparently come with information on the box to let HDMI hungry punters know that they're getting one of the newer models.
The 65nm processor chips have a ring of
project 'Falcon' from last month, although that particular rumour made no mention of HDMI.
No comment was available from Microsoft at the time of press.
