Rockstar is working on a new franchise that it will bring exclusively to the PS3.
On the official PlayStation blog, Sony Computer Entertainment America's head of third party relations, Michael Shorrock, writes, "We’ve agreed to the PlayStation exclusive rights of the next great franchise from the Rockstar studios."
The deal was also mentioned on Spike TV's
GameHead programme, but details were scant from either source. Shorrock is more interested in telling us what a great relationship Sony and Rockstar have. He crowed:
"We have had incredible success with the GTA franchise and are happy to continue to offer those titles on our platforms, and even more excited about what’s to come from the current and future relationship between our companies. Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of CELL and Blu-ray disc and this deal lets them do just that.. This is really a win-win situation for both companies."
The news comes as a boon to Sony, which has lost the exclusivity of
Grand Theft Auto and has even seen Rockstar admit that
the 360 will have the "full" GTA IV experience. (If you want a taster of just what that experience will be, see SPOnG's
GTA IV preview).
Shorrock did tell us what the new game is not, saying, "this franchise is not
LA Noire, but something all new."
Keep you eyes on SPOnG for more details as they're announced.
