Xbox 360’s Spring Update Finally Here
There’s nothing like having a nice spring clean, cleaning out all the rubbish and nonsense from your hovel and adding a few nice new touches, like flowers (if you are a lass) or the Xbox 360’s spring update, featuring Windows Live Messenger (if you are a lad).

Leaving those mildly sexist inferences aside, SPOnG is glad to report that you can finally upgrade your 360 by just hooking up to Xbox Live right now. It’s true! We’ve just done it.

So you can now chat with your mates on Messenger, while you are playing a game or watching a movie or whatnot on your 360.

Make no mistake, this is a vitally important step forward for Microsoft in its overarching, long-term ‘Live Anywhere’ strategy to bring together gamers – both casual and hardcore – on various platforms (360, PC and eventually mobile) wherever they are and whatever they are doing.

Live Anywhere’s longer term repercussions on productivity drops in the workplace have still to be seen!!
The update also supports USB keyboard input (phew! Though we’d advise a keyboard with a long lead at this stage!) and support for the Xbox 360 text input device due for release later this summer (pictured right).

There’s tons of other additions and improvements too, which we detailed for you yesterday.

Is that "text input device" image a joke? It looks like one of those comedy mock-ups done by first year design students, bandied around the 'Net as a (shhh, top secret) hardware project.

If you can do msn chat with your headset, that would be cool. That qwerty looks okay, nice and compact, that should suit gamers, texters and email muppets.

I still like to keep my PC to do this msn stuff though, even though I understand where MS is coming from. I bet the likes of msn on your tv will bring a lot of the female crowd in.

I'm wondering what MS aren't telling us though. MSN has the ability to le you swap/share mp3 and video files and other content. Will this feature be enabled on msn or not?

that textualiser thingy looks like a hilarious photoshop joke... it's like a prop out of Blakes 7!
