Mario Galaxy Two Player Confirmed!

But Nintendo doesn't want you to know that

The long-rumoured Super Mario Galaxy two-player option is a reality. We will able to have Mario and his slimmer brother Luigi bouncing around the screen together once again!

The information comes from Nintendo's official Wii website (pictured below) which, on the game page for the upcoming Wii title, bears the legend 'Players: 1-2'.

SPOnG contacted Nintendo for further information but was told, "we're not announcing any further details on the game right now." So what, we are left to wonder, will the two player mode look like? It would seem likely that on such a big release Nintendo will make use of the Wii's wireless capabilities (annoying friend codes and all). There was also suggestion from Nintendo guru Miyamoto that a second player may be able to manipultate the environment at E3 last year.

A Mario Galaxy two-player option has long been the source of speculation. Nintendo mentioned it as far back as June last year. It promptly went tight-lipped on the subject, however. SPOnG can only speculate that Nintendo doesn't want you to know things about a game that you might want to buy.

The good news is that, whether Nintendo wants to tell us about the game or not, we'll know by the end of the year when it finally gets released. In the meantime you can enjoy this tasty Mario Galaxy footage from GDC.

this could be very nice indeed, cud also be annoying,i think for a game like mario galaxy u would want to see the full screen dedicated to one player.

I seem to remember the montage movie around the launch of the Wii and thinking that as Mario was flying around between asteroids and such, somebody else was collecting the stars which he flew past. Dunno - may be just a guess but I would've thought they'd have shown us Luigi by now if this was true.

If you look at this video --> http://wiiportal.nintendo-europe.com/10719.html you can see right at the end how the guy is helping the woman - perhaps this is the 2 player part?

Actually, Super Mario 64 2 was promised to have a two-player mode, but that game evolved into Mario 128 and that evolved into Pikmin and with Pikmin 2 you had the two-player mode.

It's probably so that person number two controls the pointerstar thingy...the perfect boyfriend-girlfriend playsetting.

Having played the game I can assure you that one person can handle the control of mario and the pointing simultaneously, thats kind of the whole point of the game. Saying a game is two player just because you could feasibly let one person hold each part of the controller would be pretty s**t. I could have a friend work the gas while I steer in NFS:carbon if i chose to, but i certainly wouldn't advertise that as 2player. Personaly i think taking turns, like old Mario games, is the way to go. Camera work on those 360 degree surfaces with two players would be horrible and i don't think i can go back to 480p split screen now.
