God of War 3 has been unofficially announced for the PS3. At the launch party for
God of War 2, Cory Barlog, director of the upcoming PSP
God of War title, spilled some beans on what we should expect.
While he didn't directly say “
God of War 3 is coming on the PS3”, he might as well have done. He told assembled revellers at the party to expect 1080p, sixaxis and vibration in the future of
God of War. That sounds like a PS3 instalment in the franchise to SPOnG.
Don't think we missed the mention of vibration, either. Barlog adds further weight to ongoing speculation that
rumble's returning to PlayStation controllers.
The bean-spilling didn't end there, however. Barlog also had a few things to say about the upcoming PSP
God of War game. It's not a port, for one thing. "It is its own story that connects to the overall story,” Barlog said. “God of War, God of War 2, and then if all the stars align God of War 3 will be the telling of a trilogy. This PSP story will be a further fleshing out."
He went on to add, "We're not reusing any levels. We're not doing any of that stuff. It's all original content.”
Apparently, being on a small platform doesn't mean it'll be a small game, either. "It is epic. It is big,” said Barlog. “There are hooks in the PSP story that I actually wrote from one of my first stories for God of War 2, so there are a lot of elements -- we're going to keep connecting all this stuff. To me, it's a persistent world... I want the PSP version to not feel like the PSP version... it's just as big. It's just as epic. It's God of War."
The
God of War fellas over at Sony have been making themselves known in the lead-up to
God of War 2. Jaffe's been on record with his choice for
playing Kratos in the possible upcoming movie. And then there was this
tasty new trailer a little while back.
So, there it is. It's amazing what you can get out of a developer with a bit of booze in him. Anyone remember David Jaffe, the game's creator, at the
Playboy mansion last year...?
