Virgin Megastore’s flagship London, Oxford Street store is set to be the venue for what is promised to be a hugely spectacular PlayStation 3 launch on March 23rd.
“Right now we are just finalising all our plans with Sony and the various agencies and local authorities helping us to make the launch something rather special,” said PR Manager at Virgin Megastores, Stephen Lynn when we spoke with him earlier today.
Lynn added, “We’ll have more details for you on what’s being planned next week, for now we are just making sure our customers will be safe and will have an amazing experience… we hope that it will be quite a spectacle!”
Oxford Street has had its fair share of major game launches over the past few months with the
Wii launch before Christmas and the
recent World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade launch both drawing in the crowds.
The last major console launch at the Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street was the Xbox 360 launch way back in December 2005 (pictured).
Sony’s naysayers have gone strangely quiet since the company’s
confident GDC announcements this week. It will be interesting to see how many PlayStation fans and fanboys turn up at the top end of Oxford Street in a fortnight to welcome the PS3.
SPOnG will bring you more news on the launch plans as we get it and we will of course be there on the day to cover all the launch shenanigans.
