Industry journal, MCV, reports that UK supermarket chain, Asda, will be selling a limited number of PlayStation 2s for an astounding £50 from 7:30am tomorrow (February 21st) via its 316 national shops.
MCV was told the following by an Asda staff member, "Yes, we will be selling PS2s for 50 quid tomorrow morning. But I'd get here as early as you can if I were you. We're expecting a massive response once word gets out – and we've only got a certain number available."
In the lead-up to the PlayStation 3 launch, this news follows Xbox 360 price cuts from both Play.com (£150) and Amazon (£189.99).
Whether in fact Asda's decision is simply to get more customers through its doors and some executive has deciced that the PS2 is 'cool' or it's to clear its decks for PS3s is as yet unconfirmed.

Lol. Glad I never had to buy one, thanks to Spong. However now would be a good time to pick up a second, shame I have more important games and stuff to spend money on.

Cheers Spong. Just bought mine from the Park Royal store in London for £49. I guess when the spokesman said to get down early, they meant within the next few days. There was no one else there! That will teach me for getting up early.

Can't believe this - the only 2 sites online that knew anything about this were Spong and MCV's own.
Question: If MCV is like a bible to the games industry - what with it's exclusive access to ChartTrack data, why don't more news sources utilise it? Piss-poor journalism I'd wager.
