Rumours are circulating that Microsoft is going to make attaining an Xbox Live ‘Achievement’ that bit more rewarding. The rumour, which started on the blog of Xbox
MVP DeaconBlade, reads as follows:
" On a recent gathering with a few fellow Xbox MVPs, we stumbled upon a partially torn document… In this document were plans…interesting plans… Xbox is teaming up with sponsors to launch a new program next month...For the first time with the Xbox 360, gamers will be rewarded for their Achievements and participation in this program. It will be a free program for all interested in registering... Your participation, in fact, is simply doing what you've been doing all along…playing games, having fun and unlocking those Achievements."
For some reason, the blogger doesn’t show a scan of the document, so the truth of the story remains hidden. This also means that no details of the rewards are available.
Speaking to Microsoft this afternoon, SPOnG was told that there was no knowledge of any such a rewards system, at least for the UK.
SPOnG has to wonder about the source of these rumours. One possibility is that this claim of a reward scheme is an attempt by the blog itself to drum up support for such a program. Otherwise it seems possible that Microsoft authorised a leak to see what initial reactions to the scheme would be.
Whether or not these claims are true it would make sense for Microsoft to implement such a scheme. It wouldn't cost much to run, especially if they offered rewards such as places in the
Halo 3 BETA.
