World Exclusive: New Lumines II Trailer

Latest on Mizuguchi’s labour of love inside

SPOnG keeps its beady eyes closely fixed on each and every game project that Tetsuya Mizuguchi is involved in, with the forthcoming Lumines II for PSP currently right at the top of our Mizuguchi-must-have list.

And while we cringe when PRs describe Miz as, ‘the Spielberg of the games industry’ (the comparison means nothing and does neither him nor the games industry any favours) our eyes light up, our ears flutter with joy and our brains do a little dance whenever we play his games.

You can download the latest Lumines II/ Chemical Brothers trailer exclusively here on SPOnG, by clicking on one of the below links:

MPEG4 XviD (5.7MB)
Quicktime (6.9MB)
Windows Media (5.2MB)

You can also see the newly unveiled, beautifully designed official Lumines II site at Lumines2thegame.com.

As we noted back when we interviewed the man himself at E3 this year, when you meet Mizuguchi in the flesh, other than being mildly jealous at the fact that women hang on his every word and that he is effortlessly cool, he also: “looks like his brain is struggling to function in the normal world, wishing instead to be alone with his thoughts of space, music and wherever else his brain goes to enjoy itself.”

He is an innovator. A true original, a designer who makes games unlike any others and who, as he explained in a talk he gave at the Develop conference earlier in the summer, likes to start every game project by going right down to the basics, looking at what makes us tick as human beings.

Mizuguchi's music-puzzle games are an ongoing investigation into how we derive pleasure from constructing beautiful combinations of light and sound, bending them to our will as we strive to complete a series of simple yet dastardly additive puzzles. If you’ve played Lumines or, better still, the critically-lauded Rez, you’ll know what we mean. (If not, go out and get both from your local bargain bin as soon as! – Ed).

You can see the full details on Lumines II at SPOnG’s dedicated game page, plus another bunch of trailers on the game, which we brought to you back in August along with the details on the awesome Lumines II soundtrack, which, as well as The Chemical Brothers also features Beck, New Order and Zoe Ball’s husband (who also used to be in the Housemartins).
