Apologies for the slightly misleading sub-header above. Of course, you might already have realised our slight mistake. Because, as any heavy drug abuser will know, in order to experience a bad comedown, one has to have experienced a really great high.
And Microsoft have not yet experienced anything resembling a ‘high’ in Japan with Xbox 360, which continues to function as little more than a bit of a joke amongst Japanese gamers, who are known to be more than a little Xenophobic and anti-Microsoft (read: anti-American) in their outlook.
In the last week of June, Xbox 360 sales totalled 1,897 units versus the PlayStation 2's 23,133 units, according to market tracker Media Create. That'a quite a gulf, although the 360 still placed in the number two position among consoles, just ahead of Nintendo's GameCube, which sold 1,002 units in the same period.
Perhaps then, these Japanese anti-American Xenophobes should just chill out at bit and try some of this new Xbox 360 branded Ecstasy! Yes, that’s right. Some entrepreneurial crustie has come up with the wizard idea of nicking Microsoft’s next gen console’s brand name and using it to market hard drugs to kids (read: students).
It seems that a new 'brand' of ecstasy powder (aka MDMA) is doing the rounds amongst the UK’s finest drug abusers, thanks to the ever helpful stoners posting over on Squatjuice, where there is a debate raging about whether the Microsoft console-inspired hard drug is cut with MDMA, LSD or Mescalin.
Well, each to their own we say here at SPOnG. Whilst we spend out time discussing the relative merits of Mario over Zelda, others spend their time getting right off their nut, then comparing the experience on Squatjuice, SPOnG’s new favourite site about hard drug abuse.
In the interests of science (you understand) we will be trying to get our hands of some prime, uncut Xbox 360 MDMA to see how it compares with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console, and also (in a controlled environment, you understand) if a combination of the two experiences proves to be synaesthetically pleasing or anxiety-inducingly displeasing.
