It wasnt that long ago that the mention of Lego evinced thoughts of little plastic bricks and nothing more. But as technology advances, computers and video games are featuring in peoples' lives with increasing intensity. After having established the Lego Media company, a whole plethora of Lego video games were released. Among these games is Lego Racers, now available for Game Boy Color.
After switching on the little handheld, you will soon notice what has to be the most diverse options menu ever seen in a racing game. Before even beginning a race you have the chance to create drivers, edit existing drivers and build cars among other things. There are three modes of play in all that consist of single race, circuit race and two-player link up. Initially, only one track will be available to race, but through the games system of progression you can unlock a whole series of themed tracks across varying locations that will have you racing through haunted forests and deserts. When racing against computer AI characters you will soon notice just how cunning they are. They will block your racing line at every opportunity, but in your favour are a variety of weapons pick-ups that allow you to overcome these frustrating challenges. The games most valuable asset by far is the two-player option that proves to be extremely addictive and brings out Lego Racers potential longevity.
At present, there are no infamous Mario Kart games on the handheld platform, but Lego Racers remains a worthy substitute in the time being.
