Sammy Corp., established in 1975, was created to handle the manufacturing and marketing of gaming machines for Satomi Corp. and Sammy Industries Co. Ltd. At that time its core operations involved the development and construction of pachinko machines, a popular pasttime in arcades across Japan.
Sammy's first steps into videogame development took place in 1978, followed ten years later by the establishment of a US division.
Subsidiaries Japan Soft and Techno Sammy were formed in 1990 and 1995 respectively, though both were later merged back into Sammy Corp. 2001 saw the creation of Sammy Europe Ltd. and Sammy Entertainment Inc., with the latter now known as Sammy Studios, Inc.
Sammy's first work that SPOnG is aware of is the 1992 title, "Battle Blaze" (SNES).
The company has been involved titles released on the PS2, Xbox, GBA, SNES and Neo Geo.
The company's most recent involvement was on the 2005 release "Iron Phoenix" (Xbox).
