Interplay Evicted From Californian Office

No staff, no desks, but still hanging on.

Art from Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II
It has been a difficult period for Interplay recently, after employees filed complaints about non-payment of wages, its office landlord chased nearly half a million dollars in unpaid rent, Bioware filed a lawsuit for unpaid Baldur’s Gate royalties, and the State Of California demanded $179,000 in back taxes. Despite this tricky financial predicament, company CEO Herve Caen maintains that the business is still up and running. Although workers have been evicted from the offices and heavy fines are squeezing the financial fist of doom even tighter, it’s not all over just yet. Cean commented, “The company has not been shut down. [The State Of California] doesn’t have the power to do that. It can only let me not let employees work.” A small point, but an important one nonetheless.

Some employees remain optimistic, despite not being paid and having no workers' compensation insurance. Realistically however, the situation is dire. Interplay would be all but bankrupted if it was to clear its debts, fines and overdue payments. Caen insists that as long as there is active trading stock, Interplay will continue to exist, but with no office and with no employees, it’s difficult to envisage how it might go about doing that.

An official announcement regarding Interplay’s trading status is expected in the near future.

He's not known as The Terminator for nothing. His extreme right wing poitical views will see him terminiting tax breaks for the poor, terminating medicare, terminating jobs, terminating taxes for the rich.

There is a precedent for an ex-patriate Austrian with a background in the arts gaining political power in a foreign country based on an right-wing political agenda... we surely don't want that scenario happening again.

Interplay has always been the cracked-out uncle of the games industry. You can't tell me the designer wasn't huffing something with "ClayFighter." Still, great memories. It's a cut-throat industry.

And that's just the craziest thing I've ever heard.
