PSP to see Releases Twinned with PlayStation 2
We have received word that Sony Computer Entertainment Japan is currently on a charm offensive with the PlayStation Portable (PSP) showing it to various key retail and development partners. And as you might expect, despite some fairly hefty non-disclosure agreements being issued, rumour juice has oozed out from almost every meeting.

The latest and perhaps most intriguing batch of such rumours has been making its way through the Japanese press for several days, so we thought we’d collate them for your reading pleasure.

First of all, and perhaps most believable, comes the news that the PSP will be linked to the PlayStation 2 from the get go, with several launch titles seeing this link. The link will make use of the PlayStation 2’s USB port. Apparently.

Most interesting is the rumour that releases will be twinned with the PSP and the PlayStation 2, with the same game being made available for both platforms at the same time. According to various reports, the two machines will be similar enough to support full cross-platform play, enabling gamers to play at home on the PS2, then transfer the data to the PSP and continue the same game whilst on the move. This concept, if actually feasible and indeed true, is massive news, and will put Nintendo’s comparatively feeble connectivity attempts to shame.

Also reported was the possibility of various functionality features being stripped from the final version of the PSP on launch, a la PSX. Image support, music playback and wireless networking are all said to be under review at SCE. Astounding gossip and astonishing news, if any of it comes to fruition.

Expect clarification from E3 in Los Angeles this May.

thats so stupid...who wants to buy the same game twice? why spend $100 on a single game? instead of buying the game for ps2 and psp, why not just buy it for psp and play it on the psp at home as well? you'll save 50 bucks that way...sony better not do this. that'll be so dumb.
