Speaking in the Tokyo Daily on Wednesday, Sony Consumer Electronics senior planner Kenji Matsuoka made some revealing comments detailing how the PlayStation 2/DVD recorder/TV hard drive device almost had no console innards at all.
“We, at one point of development, even thought of dropping the game function altogether,” said Matsuoka, when detailing the tortuous time the team has had designing and building the PSX.
For reference, the machine, available in two hard drive size versions, launches in Japan on December 13, with a western roll-out expected mid-2004.
