BigBen, shaking a tail-feather out of its Stockport UK office, has announced what is shaping up to be the most comprehensive dancing and music game the world has ever seen: Dance UK.
Between one and eight players can take part, using two dance mats in a variety of co-operative and competitive modes. What’s more, via a microphone, dancing will for the first time be combined with singing.
Licensed tracks come from the likes of Mis Teeq (One Night Stand), Sugababes (Round Round), DJ Sammi (Heaven), Junior Senior (Everybody) and Oliver Cheatham featuring Room 5 (Make Luv).
Interestingly, BigBen will release follow-up albums for the game, priced at significantly less than a full-price game. So instead of having to shell out for a whole new game when you get tired of what’s included from day one, players will be able to keep adding music, lyrics and moves to what they already have - an excellent idea.
So should Konami be worried for the future of its market-leading dance series Dance Dance Revolution? The series has already fought off several challengers, in the arcades and for home console, though none has really offered anything above and beyond what DDR delivers. With the focus on innovation and value offered by Dance UK, perhaps a new force in dancing and music games is about to emerge.
Dance UK will be release for PSOne and PlayStation 2 in October 2003.
