Don Mattrick has wasted no time getting comfy in his new position as Zynga CEO, immediately firing off an introductory letter to company employees in an attempt to drum up some excitement for the future. The new CEO,
who abruptly left his post as head of
Microsoft's Xbox division last night, declared that the Facebook and social gaming company had yet to reach its full potential. Assumedly, he will be the man that unlocks that potential.
"I joined Zynga because I believe that Mark [Pincus, founder]'s pioneering vision and mission to connect the world through games is just getting started," Mattrick wrote. "As Mark was recruiting me to come here, I was impressed by his creativity, drive and the clarity in which he sees the future of games and entertainment as a core consumer experience.
"I've seen firsthand how powerful franchises and networks can work together to deliver breakthrough value for consumers and drive sustainable growth. We too, have all the makings of a successful service and business and we have the opportunity to create lifelong relationships with our customers through our high quality products.
"Zynga is a great business that has yet to realize its full potential."
Perhaps Mattrick's first job should be to boost morale in the company - things have been rough after Mark Pincus launched a huge restructuring that
resulted in the closure of Draw Something app developer OMGPOP.
Stories of employees celebrating their firings have not been uncommon.
Mattrick leaves Microsoft with CEO Steve Ballmer overseeing the Xbox department.
