A high-ranking Sony Computer Entertainment meeting is scheduled to take place later today in the US, with invited attendees from the games, technology and financial press.
It is widely expected that the firm is about to outline its plans for putting the PlayStation 2 online in the region, stealing Microsoft’s online thunder.
Rumour is also gathering pace that says Sony might be about to unveil a new hardware model of PlayStation 2 that will feature built-in Ethernet broadband facilities and an integral hard drive.
