Reports have surfaced that state Sony Computer Entertainment Japan is poised to buy Nifty, Japan’s most popular Internet Service Provider.
Sony is poised to ink a deal with Toshiba, Nifty’s current owner, estimated to be worth a staggering 100 billion yen, or around £522 million.
Sony has stated that it intends to “substantially increase” its Internet presence for both PC and home-entertainment purposes. Whether the Nifty deal will see further PS2 online support remains to be seen.
