Sony Online Entertainment Cancels The Agency, Cuts Jobs
Sad news for MMO fans as Sony Online Entertainment confirms rumours that development of The Agency has been discontinued. In sadder news for those employed at the company, the cancellation is part of a cost-cutting measure that will also see three studios shut down and 205 redundancies.

"As part of a strategic decision to reduce costs and streamline its global workforce, SOE announced today that it will eliminate 205 positions and close its Denver, Seattle and Tucson studios," the company wrote in a statement.

"As part of this restructuring, SOE is discontinuing production of The Agency so it can focus development resources on delivering two new MMOs based on its renowned PlanetSide and EverQuest properties, while also maintaining its current portfolio of online games.

"All possible steps are being taken to ensure team members affected by the transition are treated with appropriate concern."

The news apparently has no impact on any of SOE's current titles, so if you're still playing EverQuest then you're going to be alright. Further, development efforts from Denver and Tucson will be transitioned to its San Diego headquarters over time.

Our best wishes to all of the employees affected by the job cuts.
