The USA's stats collator, the NPD Group, is to cease publishing monthly sales data on sales of video games hardware, meaning that the only way of getting such information will be from platform holders Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft.
It is also changing the way it reports software sales, using sales by title rather than sales by SKU.
NPD Group executive director Dave Riley noted, "The changes are being implemented in order to address the changing sales landscape as well as updates to NPD's corporate publishing policies.
"As per The NPD Group's policy, NPD hardware and software subscribers are permitted to release sales figures for their respective products - a practice that NPD will continue to support."
So, it's not that the independent sales data reporter will not be getting the data, it is simply that it won't be releasing it.
