Japan Hardware: Nintendo Down, Sony Up
There's not been an awful lot of activity in the Japanese Hardware Chart (12th - 18th July 2010, courtesy Media Create) this week, with the only change being the PSP 3000 taking the lead over the DSi LL in the handheld chart.

This is despite the scorching popularity of the latest Fire Emblem game on Nintendo DS...

Home Console
Wii: 22,239 (24,604)
PS3: 19,473 (18,345)
360: 5,936 (5,688)
PS2: 1,507 (1,558)

Handheld
PSP: 26,786 (24,421)
DSi LL: 25,884 (28,916)
DSi: 16,318 (17,356)
DS Lite: 4,895 (4,992)
PSP Go: 1,155 (1,046)

(Previous week's unit sales in brackets for comparison)

In fact, all of Nintendo's platforms have seen a drop in sales compared to last week's numbers, while Sony's consoles have all seen a boost. While the PSP 3000 benefited the most, the PS3 also had a brief sales lift, inching it closer the the Wii's sales numbers. The Xbox 360 also experienced a slight boost in sales, as did the beleaguered PSP Go.

No doubt Last Ranker and Konami's new baseball game helped turn the PSP's fortunes around, but can it last? The Nintendo DS is slowing momentum after a platform price cut, and the company is no doubt hoping that the boost its handheld family experienced isn't as short term as it seems. Either way, this seems to be the summer for new releases, so next week could see the charts turned around some more.
