The USA video games market was down again for the month of May according to the NPD group's figures.
In terms of actual games, well, Red Dead Redemption did its utmost to save the day. Overall there was a rise of 4% in revenue year on year with $466.3 million coming through the tills in the stores. Red Dead Redemption (Xbox 360 with 945.9k vs PS3 with 567.1k) basically carried a great deal of the weight. The arrival of Super Mario Galaxy 2 with 563.9k also helped.
Hardware sales were down once again though, this time by 20% ($241.5 million) compared to the same period last year. This added to the overall slide of 5% ($823.5 million) for games, hardware and accessories compared to 2009.
Basically Nintendo won the hardware race with both DS and Wii coming top of their respective slotes. Xbox 360 sales pipped PS3.
