Be Crowned King or Queen Of Gaming – And Save Civilisation!

And it’s outside London too…

You can call SPOnG an old softy if you like. You can call us independent-minded, (you can even call us, well, email us, at feedback@spong.com if you like) but not only do we love video games, we also love one of the truly great resources of any great civilisation – the public library (stop yawning at the back) So, when we found out about a way to support both, well, we had to tell you.

Here’s what local Lancashire (that’s in England) media outlets are pimping right now:

Videogame fans can be crowned King or Queen of the PlayStation 2 in a competition being run by libraries in Wigan.

Aimed at children aged from 11 to 17, the PS2 competition will pit youngsters against a variety of games.

The overall winner will win a £20 voucher for high street store GAME. Runners-up will get a £10 voucher.

A spokesman for the Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust said: "These free competitions are a lot fun and are always played with great spirit."

The PS2 competitions are taking place at libraries in Atherton on Wednesday, February 28, from 4pm until 6pm, Golborne on Thursday, March 8, from 4pm until 6pm, Leigh on Saturday March 3, from 1pm until 3pm and Tyldesley on Thursday March 1, 4pm until 6pm.

Competitors can pre-register their interest by contacting their local library or visiting: www.wlct.org/libraries

So, either get yourself, your sibling, your cousin or some random hoodie off the estate down to your public library and pwn that £20.

Yeah, that’s SPOnG all over, in the thrall of the industry!
