A shocking story in the Yorkshire Evening Post today reports that prisoners at Wakefield Prison have been found to be watching – wait for it – pornographic movies on their PlayStation 2 consoles.
According to the YEP, "Prison chiefs have now banned the machines from the jail after it became clear they were being abused... Wakefield MP Mary Creagh is now calling for a tighter security regime."
Prison Governer Dave Thompson told the YEP; "There was a time when we allowed access to the PlayStation 1 and they were later replaced by the PlayStation 2 machines. When it became clear that they could be used to play DVDs which included pornographic material we removed them all."
Hang on! It doesn't take a huge leap to concieve that, if DVD porn is being smuggled into cells, these villains probably haven't been using their PS2s to play LEGO Star Wars. Instead, let's give them the means to enjoy a spot of poisoning in Hitman, frenzied stabbings in Manhunt or offing a few coppers in GTA.
Shocked yet? Wakefield Prison, the UK's most secure prison facility, is home to some of the UK's most prolific murderers and paedophiles - some held in solitary cells and watched 24 hours for their protection. Over the year, Her Majesty's guests at Wakefield have included Harold Shipman and Ian Huntley. That these individuals have access to any form of entertainment beyond their four walls is a concern, but the fact that convicted child molesters and mass murderers have access to pornography is an outrage. One shudders to think what goes through these sickos minds as they entertain themselves with porn.
