Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest videogame publishers, announces today that it has signed a licensing agreement with DIC Entertainment, a leading children’s entertainment company, to create videogames based on the new, stylish Trollz. The exclusive worldwide agreement covers interactive games based on the tween entertainment and lifestyle property for all existing game formats.
In Fall 2005, DIC, along with its partners, will simultaneously roll out the unique Trollz merchandise and entertainment program that merges fashion, magic and high-tech communication. The videogames, which also target the key 6–12 year-old girl demographic, will incorporate all three elements. The fantasy universe of the Trollz will come to life and showcase the different magical talents, styles and personalities of the characters, as well as the friendship which binds them together. An initial game for handheld consoles is planned for late this year, with other formats to follow. Additionally, DIC will launch an online persistent web community in April 2005.
With this licensing win, Ubisoft joins the list of companies such as Scholastic (publishing), Hasbro (toys), Warner Bros. (home entertainment) and One World Interactive (mobile) who are all throwing their forces behind the revamped brand’s 2005 U.S. launch. Trollz’s international debut is scheduled for 2006, and girls will also discover them through the animated series to be broadcast by CBBC in the UK.
“The Trollz are back with a hair-style vengeance,” said Laurent Detoc, President of Ubisoft’s North American division. “We are excited to be able to bring these characters to life and allow girls to interact with them in a video game.”
“We are delighted to be working with Ubisoft as our videogame partner for Trollz,” stated Nancy Fowler, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Consumer Products at DIC. “Our licensing program is now complete and well-rounded to offer tween girls everything they want in terms of fashionable and interactive merchandise capturing the essence of the Trollz brand. We’re thrilled to make this announcement.”
