In "Evil Islands" the player has to overcome superior numbers of enemies with a small but hard-hitting task force, but not with crude force. In order to master the challenges of the game, the heroes have to act strategically. Brute force actions are condemned to failure. "Evil Islands" will appear on CD-ROM at october 2000.
The Story: Searching for one's own identity...
Many years after an earth disaster of magical origin divided the world up into floating islands, a young man stands helpless and alone on one of these islands again, as a consequence of tragic circumstances. Total am-nesia clouds his memory. There is nothing else for him to do but to survive in the foreign and extremely dangerous environment. The more he learns about his origin, the clearer it becomes to him that he is a part of the his-tory of these mysterious islands.
The Game: Strategy paired with exhilarating action
"Evil Islands" is a perfectly balanced mixture of captivating fantasy fights
and sophisticated strategic planning. In multiplayer game the player is en-trusted with command over a group of heroes, whose members become genuine individuals thanks to a character generator. The interactive land-scape of the island kingdoms makes a large number of strategies possible in order to achieve the mission objectives. Enemies can be mastered with a large selection of character attributes, armours and weapons. The high-speed dynamics typical for real-time strategy games can be interrupted at any time by a touch of the key in order to counter dangerous situations with the right magical formula or a new tactic. Each object gained in enemy ter-rain can be utilised in the settlements in order to create new, magical ar-mours, weapons or magical formulae as the player imagines.
The Technique: A feast for eyes and ears
A morphing technology and procedural textures permit new possibilities in the epic game-world of "Evil Islands", which is presented throughout in 3D. The hero's shoulders widen when his strength value is improved in the game; the shadows lengthen or move around depending on where the sun stands, wounds and scratches are visible on the heroes' skin and ar-mour.
Each of the three island kingdoms has its own culture and architecture, reminiscent of the cultures of Southeast and Northern Europe, South America and Egypt. From the peaks of the snowbound mountain land-scapes of Kania to the sunny pastures of Gipath and the dark dungeons of Syslanger, the graphic presentation is enchanting, with countless de-tails and versatility. This impression is reinforced by fog effects, rain, snow and a flowing change between day and night. The interactive music themes specially composed for this have been recorded as MP3 files. More than 1000 ambient noises and sounds provide a background for the action and change depending on the time of day and year.
