ECTS- 3 September 2000 - Arcatera: "The Dark Brotherhood" is a "point and click" adventure game set in the city of Senora within the fantasy world of Arcatera. Based on a complex "Name Of The Rose"-style criminal investigation, the hero (and a party of his choosing) have only 3 weeks of game-time to counter the evil deeds of a satanic gang. With a non-linear story-line, the game may lead to various outcomes depending on the player's actions and attitude towards others (multiple branches lead to over 10 possible endings). The player not only has complete freedom of action, but also lives in a realistic city where all the inhabitants have definite behaviour patterns (they can be seen eating, sleeping and moving around the city depending on their needs). The game also contains role-playing elements such magic, combat (complete with group tactics), party personalisation and progression (through experience, money, equipment etc.)

Arcatera is one of the only games of such depth and complexity to be released on Dreamcast, and one of the most advanced in its genre on PC. It is graced with beautiful 2D pre-rendered graphics, over 200 stunning locations, 150 interactive characters (complete with high quality voice acting) and an open-ended intrigue storyline that varies from one game to another. Arcatera also has a unique immersive atmosphere and stacks of replay value. This truly is the first game to successfully combine the beauty and atmosphere of a top class graphic adventure with the depth of a traditional RPG.

Arcatera is set to appeal to a wide audience of Adventure / RPG / fantasy fans, and its accessible nature seems sure to draw in even the more casual players.
