Digital Bridges, pioneers in mobile entertainment, is celebrating 100,000 games being played through its 'wap' site wirelessgames.com.

The 100,000 barrier was smashed in just six weeks, equating to one new game being played on the site every two minutes. The 100,000 games have been played via WAP phones connecting to wirelessgames.com - the gaming content channel of Digital Bridges, which is delivered on the Digital Bridges UNITY content delivery platform.

"The announcement is great news for Digital Bridges and a huge boost for the WAP market in general as it proves that the technology is stable and that consumers are using and enjoying it," said Kevin Bradshaw, CEO of Digital Bridges. "As far
as we know, no other channel is even getting 100 plays per day, never mind 1000s. Certainly no one else is offering live multi-player games on nine different WAP devices in seven different languages."

The majority of players are subscribers to Omnitel, Digital Bridges' first live operator customer. Omnitel is Italy's second largest mobile phone network, with more than 12 million subscribers. Omnitel has also embraced WAP technology from the off, making it a perfect first business partner for Digital Bridges.

At the moment, subscribers can access 18 games, ranging from quiz games, puzzles, card games and two player board games. There are also a couple of more complex games, such as a two-player boxing game and a two-player tank game. All of the games have been designed specifically for WAP users, lasting around 5 minutes to provide a short, contained and enjoyable experience.

"Breaking the 100,000 mark is excellent news for Digital Bridges," added Kevin Bradshaw. "It really proves that WAP content can be good, fun and popular that it certainly does work. Hopefully this achievement will go some way in silencing the WAP critics, who are failing to look at WAP for what it is and can become.

"WAP is amazing technology. The ability to connect to a global network and access personalised information and entertainment via a personal, inexpensive mobile device is a true advance. At Digital Bridges, we are harnessing this
technology deliver personal mobile entertainment, to allow people to have fun while waiting for a bus or travelling home. Soon we will have built a global community of millions of wireless gamers all around the world."
