With only three weeks to go until the eagerly-awaited awards ceremony, media interest is peaking in the Golden Joystick Awards, with both The Sun newspaper and BBC’s Saturday Show becoming involved in the build-up.
The Sun newspaper is joining Radio 1’s Sara Cox Show as an official media sponsor and has adopted the ‘Most wanted Game for Christmas 2002’ award as its own. This award will be voted for through the newspaper’s website (www.thesun.co.uk) and will be promoted through the newspaper’s ‘Gizmo’ column prior to the show.
Further pre-event publicity will come from BBC’s ‘The Saturday Show’ which will host a competition whereby one viewer will win two tickets to the event itself. In addition, the show’s website will also send its visitors to the official Golden Joystick Awards website (www.goldenjoystick.co.uk).
“The involvement of such high-profile media shows how quickly the Joysticks have been adopted as the UK’s premiere video games awards,” says Tara Leathers, Games Division Publisher for Dennis Publishing. “With only a few weeks to go until the awards ceremony, publicity such as that generated by these partnerships should ensure that every gamer in the UK is made aware of his or her eligibility to vote and, in turn, that these are awards are the most definitive ever presented.”
Voting remains open until Friday October 18th. The winners will be announced at the Golden Joystick Awards ceremony, which will be hosted by Jonathan Ross and will take place at London’s Dorchester Hotel on Friday October 25th.
The Golden Joystick Awards are sponsored by Jungle.com (Game of the Year), Vivendi Universal Games (Hardware of the Year), Electronic Arts (Retailer of the Year) and MacroVision (Publisher of the Year).
