Quirkat, the Jordanian based developer, has announced the opening of a London Studio following the recent launch of Pro Foosball, which has propelled the company onto the global stage.
Established in 2004, the company has created a strong catalogue of regionally relevant original IP. Quirkat has a strong relationship with Sony, being the only developer with a publishing agreement in the region and having a title, Word Blocked, in the launch offering for PlayStation Mobile. The company is also licensed for PS Vita and PS3 as well as being a Nintendo developer. Pro Foosball is a highly realistic recreation of the table football experience, primarily designed to be played using Move controllers.
"We're incredibly proud of our regional heritage, but this is an exciting period of our evolution as we enter the global market on PSN with Pro Foosball," commented Mahmoud Khasawneh, Founder and CEO of Quirkat.
“We’ve been impressed for some time with the evolution of the Quirkat studio. Their culturally relevant back catalogue illustrates how much they understand their region, yet their core skills, as evidenced by Pro Foosball, make them a truly international studio. A great team with smart ideas,” commented Shahid Ahmad, Senior Business Development Manager, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
The company has announced that a London studio, based in the Tech City area near Old Street will be opened to complement existing offices in Amman and Dubai. Mahmoud Khasawneh was previously CIO of Jordan and led the Jordanian Government’s e-Government program for four years. He heads a team, 80% of whom are women, after co-founding the company with Candide Kirk.
"Our new studio in London will enable us to grow our international work as well as provide us with a base to promote our region to the global publishing and development community. The Middle East remains a vast, largely untapped market that is passionate about games."
