UK-based games developer Creature Labs have today announced the signing of an exclusive agreement with Transcience Corporation" to create "Sea-Monkey Marina," a title based on the tiny aquatic creatures which have attained a cult-kitsch status throughout the world.
Said Howard Newmark, Creature Labs Publishing Director, "This is an exciting opportunity for us. As long-time fans and admirers of the Sea-Monkey phenomenon, we have always felt that a Sea-Monkey title based on our CyberLife technology would be a great success". We're very pleased to be associated with such a huge brand and we're looking forward to doing it justice with a superb product."
Harold von Braunhut, CEO of Transcience Corp and Sea-Monkey supremo said ' I'm delighted to be working with the scientists and professionals at Creature Labs. The combination of computer-based artificial life technology and the Sea-Monkey brand is certain to create a fantastic experience for young and old alike."
In 1957, von Braunhut saw the possibility for marketing 'instant pets' by packaging tiny crustaceans, which had adapted themselves to survive for years, living in a state of suspended animation. With his "invention", Harold also saw the opportunity to introduce children to a world filled with the oddities, mysteries and wonders found in nature. Originally introduced to the public in 1960 as "Instant Life", this year marks the 40th anniversary of the Sea-Monkey brand, while last year the Sea-Monkey Watch, a mini-aquarium displaying both live pets and the time, was developed by Exploratoy's VP, George Atamian. It was named Best Educational Toy by The New York Times.
Sea-Monkey Marina is currently in development at Creature Labs' Cambridge studio and is due for release later this year. Based upon the same artificial life technology that created the million-selling Creatures series, the title will combine fun and learning experiences for all ages - just as Sea-Monkeys have done around the World for 40 years.
