Last week, Ubi Soft UK held a special day to introduce our new football titles to the press.
We borrowed part of trendy Leeds pool bar "The Elbow Room", and invited a variety of journalists up for a spot of tea. On hand to answer questions was everyone's favourite Leeds manager, Irishman and endorser of software, David O'Leary.
He successfully juggled tough questioning from journalists, a few rounds of simulated management and a curious photo session involving large white umbrellas and big reflective boards. Eager for more, O'Leary was happy to satisfy screaming fans at the nearby Game store on the Headrow where autographs were merrily procured.
"It interests me first of all," explained O'Leary, when asked why he became involved with Football World Manager 2000. "I think it's good that people can experience what I go through without having the pressure. I mean, you can get sacked in the game without having all the publicity".
With David preferring to save his footballing energies for the dugout, the kids are the only avid computer gamers in the O'Leary family. "My children haven't played this one yet," he explained, "but they would like to; maybe with my input I'll get a free copy, then I can bring it home and we can practice". He thought for a moment, "yes, they might be impressed with dad bringing home a game for them ... "
