Ubi Soft and Electro Source, LLC sign licensing agreementfor The Mask Of Zorro for Game Boy Color.

Ubi Soft Entertainment, one of the top worldwide publishers of interactive entertainment software, announced today that it has secured exclusive distribution of The Mask of Zorroä for all European countries as well as Quebec, Canada for the French version of the game. The game, which was created by Saffire solely for the GAME BOY™ Color system, is due for release in March 2000.

The licensing agreement between Ubi Soft and Electro Source gives Ubi Soft the opportunity to benefit from the strong name recognition of the hugely successful, blockbuster movie starring Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Licensing product based on Hollywood films such as The Mask of Zorroä allows Ubi Soft to reach a much wider gaming public, especially on such a popular platform as GAME BOY™ Color.

The game is set in Spanish controlled California in 1821. The player’s mission, as Zorro, is to take revenge over the evil Governor, Don Rafael Montero, who has imprisoned Zorro. After he escapes from prison, Zorro sets out to exact his revenge. Through his journey, Zorro will face over 14 unique enemies and travel through more than 40 levels. Equipped with a full range of action moves, the game contains over 200 secret rooms and power-ups. To make the story livelier, cinematic sequences as well as digitized speech are inter-cut throughout the game.
