Ubisoft has announced that it has acquired the THQ Montreal studio - but interestingly, the publisher bid on more than just the talent.
In a statement to the press, Ubisoft made mention of "a new, yet-to-be announced IP" that was in development at THQ Montreal when the studio was snapped up. It must have been of interest to Ubisoft, which has been making a play for new IP recently with the announcement of Watch Dogs at E3 2012.
Additionally, staff at THQ Montreal will join Ubisoft's own internal development teams, rather than existing as its own outfit. Such new IP will likely be transferred to one of Ubi's 26 studios around the world.
"This acquisition has no material impact on Ubisoft’s current fiscal year (2012/13)," concludes the statement.
