6,000 Retired Sports Players Sue EA
A lawsuit has been raised against Electronic Arts by 6,000 retired American football players for the alleged illegal use of their likeness in the title Madden NFL 09.

Extracts from the lawsuit accuse EA of "blatant and prolific" infringement. "EA has purposefully chosen to use the unauthorised likenesses of retired NFL players."

Although EA have altered the player’s names and uniforms in the game they can be edited through the game’s customisation options. The case reflects those brought by former footballing greats, Jim Brown and Herb Adderely. The former saw his case kicked out of court in 2009 with EA winning under a First Amendment ruling.

The case new continues.
