E3 2010: EA's Gun Club Ties You Closer with Corporate Nonsense
Yet another reason to tie yourself closer to a single publisher came out of E3 last night. EA's delicately entitled Gun Club.

Basically, you sign up via its website to become a member of the "affinity program" - not 'loyalty club' nowadays. You then "receive benefits ranging from in-game content unlocks, early access to beta tests and demos, as well as the hottest news and exclusive access to development teams."

Right now this includes (see the screenshot) Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Medal of Honor "benefits", with Battlefield Heroes and Dead Space 2, 'benefits' to follow. Sort of sounds like signing on, except of course that you become a VIP. As does everybody else who signs up.

Right now this means "early access to the Medal of Honor beta as well as early access to a Medal of Honor weapon unlock in the retail version of the game -- the M24 Sniper Rifle."

There is some awesome business nonsense to convince you, "This program takes our games from being individual launches to being part of an ecosystem within our portfolio, while showing fans our appreciation for their loyalty. The Gun Club gives us a platform to cross-pollinate our games, dialogue directly with players and add value to the entertainment experience for fans,” says Jeff Karp, Senior VP of Marketing at EA.

See, awesome nonsense. Basically, EA gets your email address and you get some slightly early game stuff.
