Dante's Inferno Executive Producer, Jonathan Knight, has been waxing lyrical about expansion plans for the poetic hack-and-slasher, and has also opined that computer games is all “about action and killing things.”
Er. That can't really be a good perspective to promote interactive entertainment to the Jack Thompsons and Keith Vazs of this world. Still, an opinion is an opinion, right?
Speaking of whether he would like to realise anything else from his classic studies in game form, Knight says that the technology in providing “emotional quality” in games would allow Visceral to tackle a Macbeth game. He says, “The thing is, the unique quality of games is being interactive; it's about action and killing things and pursuing those mechanics is tricky when bringing in classic media.
“Dante's [Inferno] is more of a violent interpretation of the poem for example. Macbeth would be great though; there are witches and a supernatural experience along with plenty of intrigue and murder.”
So, would you only buy a game if it featured violent intentions? Seems like Visceral Games at least shares a philosophy that its name suggests. We'll be going back to our Katamari Damacy now.
