Evan Wilson - a senior research analyst over at Pacific Crest Securities - can't see a huge future in games like
Guitar Hero or
Rock Band, which he says are "losing steam".
He tells
Northwest Arkansas News, "This year will establish the direction that this genre will go. Maybe it continues to take off. Maybe it tops out at 15 percent of the software market. Or it could just turn out to be a fad. I think the latter two scenarios are most likely."
Sounds like the usual idiot analyst? Well, apparently even Kai Hwang, president of Red Octane, agrees that the format is "cooling off". He may have a point given that two million instrument packs for competitor, Rock Band 2, were sold at a loss in the fourth financial quarter.
