Michael Pachter, analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities and apparent gaming oracle, has called the release period for the next GTA game.
“When the next version of GTA comes out in late 2010 (not yet announced, but a reasonable expectation), there should be an installed base of approximately 60 million consoles in the addressable market", said Pachter. We're going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he didn't mention Chinatown Wars as the next GTA game because he meant 'console version'.
He went on to say the next game will outdo GTA IV and slag off Rockstar. "We don’t think it is reasonable to estimate that sales of GTA will double the prior version, but we think that a 25-30% penetration is reasonable, suggesting 15-18 million units sold. Take-Two largely remains a one-hit wonder. The company’s one hit, Grand Theft Auto, is relatively predictable and immensely profitable”, he said.
