Fantasia: Music Evolved is a music-based rhythm game that not a lot of people saw coming.
Developed by Harmonix, one of the masters of the music game genre, Fantasia's name gives you a bit of a clue as to how it plays. The game takes its lead from The Sorcerer's Apprentice, the short from Fantasia that stars Mickey Mouse.
As in that short, players take control of the game by making arm gestures in time to the music that will be picked up by the motion-sensing Kinect. You're not just following on-screen prompts to pick up points, though. Rather, you're actively building the music with your gestures, as well as transforming the in-game landscape around you.
The game has an interesting selection of music. Musicians featured range from modern chart toppers like Bruno Mars to rock gods like Jimi Hendrix to genius composers like Mozart or Vivaldi. There are plenty of music-based games out there, but you don't often get a selection like that. There really is something for everyone. Here's that track list in full:
