In Tomb Raider, you assume the role of a beautiful archaeologist, Lara Croft. She is a thrill seeker and is willing to do almost anything that puts her life in danger – she enjoys it.

Naturally, in the first game Lara jumped all over the opportunity to recover the powerful Scion, an ancient relic scattered throughout the caverns and temples of the world.

Played from a 3rd person 3D perspective, her adventure spans over 15 levels set in 4 distinct worlds and environments. As Lara you’ll have to solve ancient riddles in the Egyptian Pyramids, discover the Lost City of Atlantis and traverse through Ancient Rome all while looking for the artefact. Each level is laced with traps and hazards that require you to flip, swim and climb your way to safety and success.

Tomb Raider 2’s textures were given a larger library than the original, making it more appealing to the naked eye. Also, the game’s structure was altered in favour of combat as opposed to adventure and exploration. New abilities and the use of vehicles were added to Lara's repertoire, meaning you could drive around on a snowmobile in arctic weather, or ride in a speedboat through the city of Venice.

Come the third game in the series, top-heavy Lara was on a mission to recover four lost artefacts from the heart of an ancient meteor. Her challenge to prevent them getting into the wrong hands is even greater than ever. Because of this, developers Core gave Lara a whole new library of weapons, including an awesome rocket launcher. Her agility has also been improved, since she now has the capability to dash, crawl, and swing across bars like a monkey. She has to travel across the globe, from Area 51 to the rooftops of London. Naturally you wouldn’t expect her walk the distance, so she can now use quad bikes and kayaks to get to her desired location.

In the fourth jaunt, you get a sneak peek at Lara's history when you must guide her, aged sixteen, around in the foot steps of Werner Von Croy. Back in the present day, Lara's in search of ancient Egyptian artifacts. Making your way through Egypt involves several modes of transport, including a Land Rover, motorbike (with sidecar!) and train, and sees some long awaited moves, such as the swinging on ropes, shimming up poles, and opening doors with the handle. On the whole, she's a heck of lot more agile. When not swinging from rope to ledge, she can carry blazing torches, combine weapons and objects, such as attaching a laser sight to your gun, and climb around the most unnerving corners. << less
