Summary

Vive Le Tour! Or in the case of Pro Cycling Manager 2009, 'Vive Le Tour de France And La Vuelta' the latter being the Tour of Spain. However, you'll already be aware of that if you want the challenge of managing a team of highly motivated (and high maintenance) cyclists. These are just two of the 20 races included in PCM 2009.

This is exactly the challenge that PCM 2009 brings. With 18 offcial teams to choose from – including comeback kid Lance Armstrong's Astana, British hope Mark Cavendish's Team Columbia High Road, and Olympic star, Bradley Wiggins' Garmin Slipsteam – you've got strategy, man management and engineering to contend with.

Those 18 teams are not all she wrote, however, you can – if you're brave or plain mad enough – opt to create your own team of pros and take that through the European rigours unlocking up to 20 other teams as you go.

PCM 2009 is not simply about the long view of winning one of the classic races of any sport, you get to micro-manage each stage from sprints to the soul destroying and hero-making mountain levels. As with the real world of road racing when to break, who to protect, when to sit in and when to change formation before the final attack are all crucial. It's not down to the individual riders to consider these make or break decisions – this is your job.

Not only do you have to contend with the competing cyclists, in 2009 you've got weather and new terrain to take into consideration. These will challenge all the way down to the final sprint for the line, which you can play in real time for the adrenal rush.

Along with the 20 races, you can also practise your Sprint, Keirin, Elimination, 200 metres Time Trial and Points Race.

There's not much point in playing a team management game alone though, so you can also go online and compete against other managers in one of the gaming world's healthiest communities drawing management challenges from around the world.
