Summary

Phantasy Star Online was one of the most enjoyable network experiences on a console when it was released on the Sega Dreamcast back in 2000. Once a traditional RPG, the series has now become Sega's flagship online RPG franchise, and Phantasy Star Zero represents its first foray on the Nintendo DS.

A lot has changed for Zero in comparison with other titles in the series. Unlike Phantasy Star Universe on the Xbox 360 or the Portable games on PSP, this outing adopts a more colourful and animated graphical style. While Universe dropped a lot of features from the Dreamcast original, Zero re-introduces some of the lost pleasures in rare item drops, a structured combat system and a more collaborative atmosphere.

The game is set on an alternate version of Earth, 200 years after a catastrophic war called “The Great Blank”. Hunters – combat-trained hired guns or soldiers that safeguard the cities and its people – have been in high demand as dangerous creatures continue to threaten mankind.

As a Hunter yourself, you must venture out into the wilderness and discover the truth behind The Great Blank and stop whatever dangerous force is behind the creatures. Three different types of classes, races and gender and a total of 14 customisable character types are available to build your avatar, and each type will give you proficiency in different kinds of weapons and skills.

Once you're all suited and booted, you can tackle the world crisis on your own, or play wirelessly with local and WiFi multiplayer options. While you play you can use the touch screen to play around with your items and weapons, and create custom messages on the Visual Chat menu.
