You have to press the buttons on your controller - which can be a traditional joypad or any licenced guitar controller - in time with the notes as they scroll down the guitar strings. But far from getting short-changed, tweenagers and pop-lovers get a whole load of features that aren't in Guitar Hero, such as the single player Career mode in which you assemble a band and try to win the worldwide battle of the bands competition. There's also a two-player co-operative mode and a selection of single and two-player mini games.

The career mode enables you to use a selection of customisable characters to form your own band. Once you've chosen the band members, you can give them the unique look you prefer by styling their clothes and hair, and even choose which instruments they play from a selection of 60 guitars and 10 drum kits. Once your band is assembled, you can play along with them to 60 pop songs from artists and groups like Rhianna, Miley Cyrus, Maroon 5 and Fall Out Boy. << less
