Summary

With the beat-em-up genre rapidly becoming saturated, developers are now looking to introduce new slants on these games. Capcom’s Powerstone showed how you could not only fight with each other, but also with the surrounding environments. Props were the key, and what better way to use them than in the Tom and Jerry fighting game, Fists of Furry?

After choosing one of the seven characters in the game (only two are available from the outset), ranging from Tom and Jerry to Spike and Tyke, you will be placed in any one of the nine classic animated 3D environments. Within these environments you are given the freedom to use any of the props that may appear in front of you to give yourself a considerable advantage over your opponent. Normally taking place over a maximum of three rounds of play, the rules of the game are near identical to those in any other fighting game. The health meter continues to play the crucial part, and should either one empty, the opposition will win the round.

Fists of Furry presents itself with a fantastic feeling of cartoon animation, despite being a video game, and as such, this light hearted beat-em-up will prove popular amongst the younger generation of games players.
