Summary

Despite being a very small genre with a small userbase, the 3D train simulator has become a lot more prominent in recent years. 2D offerings such as Railroad Tycoon were reasonably popular, but now games players have been treated to 3D outings such as Microsoft Train Simulator. Well now there's another one for PlayStation 2, promising to go deeper into railway simulation than any game to go before it. That game is Artdink's A-Train 6.

Dubbed the ultimate simulation game, players are charged with planning, designing and integrating their own railway network to meet the demands of a burgeoning city. You will need to transport your population to work, safely and on time as well as transporting their produce to the factories and other cities. Everything, and we really do mean everything, is dependent on your ability to take limited resources and use them to create a smooth running, high capacity railway network.

And it's this interaction with the population of your city that makes A-Train 6 much more in-depth than most others in the genre. Everything you do in this game involves keeping the city and its inhabitants happy. This means making sounds decisions on the buying and selling of land, house planning and the development of local industry. Your plans for a railway infrastructure can literally shape the way your city is run.

With 100 building types, 50 trains, a massive game world, extra missions and the option to walk your city in first-person mode, A-Train 6 is the most involving train sim we've ever come across.
