I was gonna mark it as irrelevant, but I recall I purchased my PS1 for FFVII and my 360 for Dead Rising, Gears and RE5.
Exclusives of past generations I feel matter a bit less as time passes. While FFVII convinced me to buy a PS1, the same series is not doing the same service now (in fact I'm kinda sick of FF, despite it being good). And in a similar way, MGS4, while being good and all, isn't as powerful IMO either.
This is why I don't feel that the FF series doesn't personally have that pulling power it once did for me (die hard will tell you different ofcourse). I think I tend to look forward more to new exciting product than established series (with the exception of certain series like RE).
I do feel that like with my 360, I need preferably more than one game to convince me to buy another system.
